When choosing a safety rope, nylon is usually a better choice than polypropylene, the following is the specific analysis:


Strength: The strength of nylon is significantly higher than that of polypropylene. Nylon safety rope can generally withstand a large tensile force, in line with higher load-bearing standards, such as common nylon parachute rope can meet 550lb (about 250kg) standards. The strength of polypropylene is relatively low, and the general force is not more than 130kg. Therefore, when used for high-altitude work, mountaineering, rock climbing and other scenes with high safety rope strength requirements, nylon safety rope is more reliable and can better protect the safety of users.


Wear resistance: Nylon is one of the synthetic fiber materials with the best wear resistance. In actual use, the safety rope may rub with various surfaces, such as in the high-rise escape with window sills, walls and other contact, or in outdoor work with rocks, equipment and other friction, nylon safety rope more wear-resistant, not easy to damage due to friction, thereby extending the service life, reduce safety risks. In contrast, the wear resistance of polypropylene is poor, and it is easy to wear and break in long-term use or in an environment with large friction.


Corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance: nylon has excellent corrosion resistance and oxidation resistance, can resist the erosion of a variety of chemical substances, and maintain stable performance under different environmental conditions. The oxidation resistance of polypropylene is poor, and after a year of normal placement, the polypropylene wire may be oxidized and catalyzed, and it will crumble gently when pulled, losing its original toughness and strength. If the safety rope needs to be used outdoors for a long time, or in some environments where there is a risk of chemical corrosion, the advantages of nylon safety rope are more obvious.


Elasticity: The elasticity of nylon is good, and it can be moderately extended when it is subjected to tension, so as to play a cushioning role in the case of sudden force or large impact force and reduce the harm to the user's body. The elasticity of polypropylene is relatively poor, and when subjected to large tensile forces, it may not provide sufficient cushioning, increasing the risk of injury to users.


However, Safety rope polypropylene  also has some advantages, such as its relatively low price, light texture, and has good floating performance, so in some of the strength requirements are not high, need to consider the cost or have special requirements for floating scenes, such as water rescue auxiliary floating rope (but not the main load-bearing rescue rope), polypropylene safety rope also has a certain application value. But overall, for most scenarios that need to ensure safety, nylon safety rope is better in performance and is a more reliable choice.
